Deccan Odyssey

The Deccan Odyssey is an elegant luxury train offering a unique tour of India’s sights, with all modern comforts on board. This famous Indian luxury train is named after the Deccan Plateau in India’s Maharashtra State. On the Deccan Odyssey, you can sample the lifestyle of the Maharajas, enjoy fine dining in the restaurant wagons, and sleep in deluxe en-suite compartments or one of the two presidential suites. The design throughout this luxury train, including both the sleepers and public facilities such as the dining and lounge cars, is meant to emulate the opulent lifestyle enjoyed by 16th-century Maharajas.

The Deccan Odyssey runs several trips each year across India, most of them lasting seven nights between Mumbai and Delhi, with stops in the famous cities of Rajasthan and in Agra, home to the Taj Mahal. Other itineraries focus on the attractions of Maharashtra and the Deccan Plateau, with some trips even reaching destinations such as Varanasi on the River Ganges or Goa with its famous beaches.

There are two types of accommodation on board the Deccan Odyssey: Deluxe en-suite compartments and presidential suites. In each wagon you will either find four deluxe en-suite compartments, or two presidential suites, so the size of the latter is nearly twice as large. All sleeper coaches on this luxury train have their own dedicated butler to attend to the guests.

Each deluxe compartment has an en-suite bathroom and can be booked with either a twin or double bed. Of course, each deluxe compartment (or cabin, as it’s also referred to sometimes) is fully airconditioned and has all modern amenities you might need, such as a safe for your personal belongings, and Wi-Fi internet. Thanks to India’s broad-gauge railway tracks, these compartments are all noticeably spacious than those on many other luxury trains around the world.

For a true luxury experience, opt for one of the presidential suites on the Deccan Odyssey. Each suite has a separate living room and two bathrooms, and like the deluxe compartments, they are fully air-conditioned with all the amenities you may need. Additionally, you’ll enjoy exclusive benefits, including a chauffeured car service with a private guide during sightseeing stops. Onboard, all drinks from the bar and lounge car, as well as laundry service, are included.

On-board dining

The Deccan Odyssey has two restaurant cars, Waavar and Utsav, each with its own distinct décor and ambiance. Catering services are provided by Taj Hotels, the renowned Indian luxury hotel chain, so you can expect excellent meals throughout your journey. All meals are included in the price of the journey.

The Deccan Odyssey also features a lounge and bar car, and even includes a spa on board one of its train coaches. The train includes a library and a coach used as a conference room and business centre. This space can be converted into a dance floor or used for other activities, such as film screenings, as well.
